24 Hours of Le Mans posters available via Twitter

Was 1992 your first year at Le Mans? Do you remember the 1972 24 Hours of Le Mans poster and long to see it again? Then we have good news for you. The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has all the posters from the very first race in 1923 to date.

To view any poster, just send a tweet to @24HoursofLeMans with the hashtag #Poster24h and the year. For example, if you tweet "@24hoursoflemans, please show me the #poster24h for 1998". Lo and behold, the poster will appear. Your wish is our command!

The posters of the 24 Hours of Le Mans are part of the heritage of the race. Every year, when the posters go up around town, the effervescence of the race begins to mount. Usually colourful, sometimes clearly depicting a car, sometimes evoking the magic of endurance racing, the posters are always representative of their era.

The 1920s visual clearly show that the race was a huge challenge while the images of the 1950s, by talented artist Géo Ham, showcase speed, movement and light. In the sixties and seventies, the famous “Le Mans start” was often depicted, an illustration that Le Mans is no ordinary race. The posters were more figurative in the eighties and nineties and featured emblematic or popular cars. Jaguar, Lancia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota have all been “the face” of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but being on the poster is no guarantee of being on the podium! More recently, the 24 Hours of Le Mans posters have featured legendary head-to-heads between rival teams. The battle between Audi and Peugeot was depicted from 2007 to 2011.

So, open Twitter and ask for the 24 Hours of Le Mans posters from 1923 to 2016! Well, not quite. This year’s poster will be revealed on Friday 5 February when the full entry list is announced.
