24 Hours of Le Mans 2015 – Nissan's choice of a front engine (video)
The Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, which is getting ready to compete in its first race of the season at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 13-14-), is the first car with front wheel drive to take the start of this race in the LM P1 class.
Find out in this video why Nissan has taken this unique approach to building a 330kmh race car, and check out Ben Bowlby (Nissan's LM P1 technical director), Jann Mardenborough and Alex Buncombe - two of the team's nine drivers - for the explanation!
Nissan Motorsports will enter three LM P1s at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A few days ago, the Japanese marque announced Marc Gené will not race at Le Mans but will remain with the team in an advisory capacity. He is replaced by Russian driver Mark Shulzhitskiy. Here are the driver line-ups:
No. 21 – Tsugio Matsuda (Japan), Lucas Ordonez (Spain), Mark Shulzhitskiy (Russia)
No. 22 – Alex Buncombe (U.K.), Michael Krumm (Germany), Harry Tincknell (U.K.)
No. 23 – Max Chilton (U.K.), Jann Mardenborough (U.K.), Olivier Pla (France)
Nissan is now ready to take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team just finished a long series of tests, the last of which was in Kentucky where two cars as well as the nine drivers were present. The die is now case, as confirmsBowlby: "Of course, we would like to have more time but we did three good days of work during which a number of points were addressed. We are now focused on preparing the two cars and assembling the third. I am very happy with the drivers who were very involved throughout the week and I am looking forward to us taking the track at Test Day."
Test Day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place Sunday, May 31st.
