Risi Competizione gives Ferrari a win at Le Mans
Sunday 15 June 2008 - 17h53
Ferrari only narrowly missed a victory last year, but this time they did a remakuable 1-2-3-4 with the F430 in LM GT2. This feat would probably have been much harder to achieve if the #76 Porsche IMSA Performance Matmut and the #80 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR not had their spectacular shunt on Saturday afternoon. Mika Salo, Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo of the Risi Competizione team were happy to win the race.
Gianmaria Bruni: "Jaime had a very good start. After the two Porsches took each other out, the race changed considerably for us, but we still had 18 hours of racing to complete and stay very alert especially during the dreadful weather conditions on Sunday morning. Last year's disappointment was still fresh in our memory, so we were extremely careful. We have been rewarded with victory, and I'm truly very happy. Winning Le Mans on my first attempt is really fabulous"
