On the petrol engine side, the French team of Pescarolo Sport was the quickest, just as they were in 2007. But in 2008 they did not appear on the podium because all six diesel cars that started the race occupied the top 6 places. LM P2 was won by the Porsche Spyders who came first and second on their first visit to the Le Mans 24 hours. Aston Martin’s DBR 9 successfully defended its lm gt1 title, Ferrari taking revenge by scoring a fabulous 1-2-3-4 in LM GT2 class. These results were made all the more remarkable and outstanding because they were watched by 258,500 enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd who had to put up with some really appalling weather conditions.
