The surface flags were displayed at the Playstation chicane when the No.1 Audi Sport North America Audi R10 TDI piloted by Frank Biela went straight on through the tire barricades. He did not contact the tire bundles, and continued around the circuit very cautiously as the rain started to fall in dramatic fashion.

Dr Ullrich reported that everything is fine with the car, and that Biela is just being very cautious. The car had already completed twelve laps since its last refuelling, and was due in the pits at the end of the lap anyway.

Biela arrived in the pit lane normally, and the crew fit full wet tyres to the car along with a higher downforce rear bodywork section.

Rain was by that time falling more heavily all around the circuit as the Audi left the pit lane, still in the lead, with Marco Werner on board.
